Mixed Media and Digital Artwork
Lynne Medsker indulges her curiosity and desire to explore the color, style and surface of different art mediums by drawing upon watercolor and acrylic painting, printmaking, photography, digital techniques and sculpture to design her mixed media art. Blended within these creations you may also see paper, clay, gravel, wood, metal, cement, sand or found objects. Additionally, she and her husband, Mark, collaborate on recycled metal wall sculptures.
Lynne has shared her artistic vision in numerous local venues; with well over a dozen solo shows in her home state of Indiana. Additionally, her work has been shown in other states across the U.S., including exhibits in Cincinnati, Chicago, Washington D.C., Phoenix and New York. She also has art in corporate and private collections.
Primarily a self-educated artist, Lynne enjoys researching, experimenting and learning at her own pace. Additional workshops & classes that have furthered her abilities include those in printmaking, drawing and pottery. Sharing her enthusiasm for art, Lynne presents a variety of workshops & classes and gives one-on-one instruction.
Mixed media is such a wide-open area to explore; essentially my art can be made of anything or any combination of things. I find creating items from so many different sources to be both intriguing and very freeing. I use a wide variety of tools and processes as I create and find the “hands on” experience of physically shaping, coloring and assembling mixed media pieces to be a fulfilling, sensory experience.
The experience of capturing the photographic images used in my digital art allows me to spend time observing and connecting with nature and my surroundings. Small details and textures seize my imagination, begging to be photographed. Following those encounters the hours spent digitally layering, modifying and enhancing the images are a nice departure from physically creating art. It satisfies the cerebral part of my nature.
Regardless of the creative method used, the final result is typically multi-layered in appearance. My work features geometric shapes, organic elements, or a balance of both and my subject matter is primarily abstract. Recently it has become more complex, with more texture, detail and dimension. I hope viewers will not only enjoy the imagery of each piece but will find evidence of things hidden within, waiting to be discovered.
