Artist’s Statement
Mixed media is such a wide-open area to explore; essentially my art can be made of anything or any combination of things. I find creating items from so many different sources to be both intriguing and very freeing. I use a wide variety of tools and processes as I create and find the “hands on” experience of physically shaping, coloring and assembling mixed media pieces to be a fulfilling, sensory experience.
The experience of capturing the photographic images used in my digital art allows me to spend time observing and connecting with nature and my surroundings. Small details and textures seize my imagination, begging to be photographed. Following those encounters the hours spent digitally layering, modifying and enhancing the images are a nice departure from physically creating art. It satisfies the cerebral part of my nature.
Regardless of the creative method used, the final result is typically multi-layered in appearance. My work features geometric shapes, organic elements, or a balance of both and my subject matter is primarily abstract. Recently it has become more complex, with more texture, detail and dimension. I hope viewers will not only enjoy the imagery of each piece but will find evidence of things hidden within, waiting to be discovered.
