Debbie Slack
Oil Paintings

Debbie did not start out as an artist, but rather spent many years in social work after graduating from Indiana University. Yet, she always had a passion for art and the creative process and spent 10 years as a decorative artist painting on walls, furniture and wine glasses. Then in 2009 she began taking classes at the Carmel Arts Academy. That is when her passion for painting on canvas began. Although she has participated in numerous local and regional art shows, she still considers herself a student and is continuing to study and grow. Her artistic inspirations include Degas, Monet, T.C. Steele, Edgar Payne and many other impressionists.

Artist's Statement

For me, painting is such a joyful and yet meditative process!  It is so easy to get lost in the movement of the paint and the play of colors on the canvas.  When I paint, everything else disappears.
While I am constantly drawn to vast landscapes with big open skies and wide horizons, I also love to paint a perfect pear, a beautiful garden, children playing in the surf or anywhere I am able to see the beauty of God’s creation. My hope is that the joy and peace that I find in the process, makes its way to the viewer.
